How Long Does Botox® Last?

Facial expressions like smiling and frowning form an essential part of communication. However, they also cause facial muscles to repeatedly pull on the skin, creasing and wrinkling it. Botox® can undo these wrinkles by stopping the muscle action that causes them, letting you look younger and more relaxed

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® uses a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. Produced by bacteria, this neurotoxin interferes with the nerves telling facial muscles when to contract. A neurotransmitter called acetylcholine carries the signal from nerve to muscle. By blocking this action, Botox® lets the muscle relax and stop pulling on the skin

How Long Does Botox® Last?

For most people, Botox® lasts about four to six months. If you have Botox® regularly, your results may last slightly longer. You can have another Botox® treatment within about three to four months of your first one if your Essential Med Clinic & Aesthetics professional thinks you can benefit from restoring your results.

Where is Botox® Used?

Botox® works to smooth lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet around the eyes, horizontal forehead lines, and vertical wrinkles between the brows (glabellar lines). Injected into these areas, Botox® acts on the nerves and muscles that cause these wrinkles. The tiny quantities used mean that the Botox® does not affect surrounding areas, leaving you with normal facial expressions.

What Results Will I See With Botox®?

You may see results in just a few days, but full results can take up to two weeks to develop. In the hands of a skilled injector, Botox® will leave you looking completely natural but younger, more relaxed, and happier. As muscles stop receiving signals, the skin can stop forming lines and wrinkles.

Botox® stops working after several months as the body clears the neurotoxin away. Although people refer to botulinum as a neurotoxin, it causes no harm to the muscles or nerves. Muscular activity will return to normal when the Botox® goes away, and lines and wrinkles will return. Many people choose to have Botox® treatments once or twice a year to keep their results looking youthful and smooth

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Most people make good candidates for Botox®. With an extensive history of medical and cosmetic uses, Botox® works safely to eliminate lines and wrinkles. It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or for people with allergies to the ingredients in Botox. If you have certain neurological disorders, you may not be a good candidate for Botox therapy.

Is There Any Downtime with Botox®?

You can go back to regular activities right after having Botox®, but avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after your injection. Some people notice minor bruising or swelling after treatment, but this will fade within a few days.

I always feel listened to by Dr. Cobbinah. As a mom, this is important because we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. She reminds me to take care of myself whenever I visit. I typically leave feeling less stressed than before.
