What is Laser Genesis and What Does it Do for Your Skin?

Men and women can experience dullness, hyperpigmentation, and other skin issues. Laser Genesis offers a gentle but highly effective way to rejuvenate your skin. At Essential Med Aesthetics, we love Laser Genesis for its no-downtime skin restoration powers. Laser Genesis uses a special wavelength that produces results with no discomfort or recovery time.

What is Laser Genesis?

Laser Genesis uses a 1064nm laser that gently heats the skin to trigger collagen and elastin production. Your Essential Med Aesthetics team has extensive experience using this treatment to provide visible, long-lasting improvements with quick, comfortable treatments.

Laser Genesis can be used to correct skin issues like hyperpigmentation and even acne. It can also be used preventatively to ward off signs of aging and keep skin looking bright and youthful. Few laser treatments can provide non-invasive anti-aging and skin-clearing results like Laser Genesis. Unlike many other lasers, this one also works safely on olive or darker-toned skin.

What Does Laser Genesis Do for Your Skin?

Laser Genesis targets the cells that produce collagen and elastin by gently heating your skin. These two vital proteins give your skin firmness, resilience, and youthful smoothness. Production of both declines with age, leading to skin that looks rougher and less firm. At the same time, conditions like acne and melasma can cause hyperpigmentation that makes your skin look uneven.

Laser Genesis can correct a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Dullness
  • Loss of firmness
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Redness
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Acne and acne scars

As a result, you can see significant improvements in skin texture and tone, as well as diminished redness and pigmentation. The laser energy also kills bacteria in your pores, rapidly clearing acne breakouts. A series of treatments can often produce long-lasting acne reduction.

How Does Laser Genesis Work?

Laser Genesis works using a laser that emits a wavelength of 1064nm. This energy is released in rapid pulses, keeping any skin area from absorbing too much heat.

Skin rejuvenating lasers come in two types: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers remove layers of skin. They can effectively treat many skin concerns but typically require some recovery time. These lasers may also not be safe for darker skin tones. Non-ablative lasers like Laser Genesis leave the skin undamaged. As a result, they are more comfortable and require less recovery time.

As a non-invasive, non-ablative laser, Laser Genesis works by transferring energy into the skin, producing heat. The heat triggers skin cells to increase their production of collagen and elastin. As these proteins become incorporated into your skin, it starts to look firmer and smoother.

This energy also targets hyperpigmentation, especially reddish tones like rosacea, broken blood vessels, and post-inflammatory redness from acne. The pigments inside these surface vessels absorb the energy, causing them to shrink and reducing or erasing your redness.

How Do I Prepare for Laser Genesis Treatments?

We will provide a few recommendations to make your treatment as productive as possible. These may include:

  • Stop tanning and avoid sun exposure for two weeks before treatment
  • Stop using retinol and alpha or beta hydroxy acids a week before treatment
  • Remove any hair in the treatment area by shaving or dermaplaning if instructed
  • Avoid the use of irritating or harsh products for several days before treatment
  • Arrive at your appointment with clean, product-free skin

We recommend that you discuss any products or medications you use during your consultation. In general, Laser Genesis requires very little preparation. While people with acne breakouts can have Laser Genesis treatment, those with other skin conditions may need to wait until these have been resolved.

What Should I Expect During Laser Genesis Treatment?

Your aesthetician will use a handheld device to administer the Laser Genesis treatment. You will not need any numbing, and the treatment is completely pain-free. Some people describe the warmth from the treatment as pleasant. The average treatment lasts 30-45 minutes, and you can resume all normal activities immediately. Your skin may look slightly flushed shortly after your session, but you can apply non-irritating makeup to cover this if desired.

How Many Laser Genesis Treatments Will I Need?

Laser Genesis usually needs several sessions to produce maximum benefits. Most people benefit from four to six sessions, although some may need more or less. Each treatment produces more collagen and elastin, continuously improving your results.

You will start to see results a few weeks after your first session, and they will continue to improve with more treatments. We recommend yearly maintenance treatments to keep your skin looking healthy, smooth, and vibrant. However, each person will respond differently to a treatment. Some people benefit from more frequent treatments, while others may have more time between them.

You can prolong the results of your Laser Genesis treatments in several ways. First, you can use high-quality skincare products that protect and promote collagen development. You can also make a significant difference by using sunscreen and avoiding excessive sun exposure. UV rays cause damage to your skin’s collagen proteins, so if you neglect your sun protection, your results may not last as long.

What Results Can I Expect After Laser Genesis?

You will usually see your Laser Genesis treatment results within a few weeks. You may immediately notice an improvement in active acne as the inflammation-causing bacteria die. Over time, pores look smaller, and your skin looks smoother and more even. Redness and visible blood vessels will fade, and many people will see a dramatic improvement in acne scars.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Genesis?

Since Laser Genesis is a non-invasive laser, it is safe for most people, including those with olive or darker skin tones. Good candidates have textural skin concerns or hyperpigmentation issues and want to treat them. Unlike many lasers, Laser Genesis can be used on active acne breakouts. It is also an effective treatment for the uneven appearance and redness of acne scarring.

Laser Genesis is not intended to treat deep signs of aging, such as significant wrinkles or skin laxity. If you have these concerns, your Essential Med Aesthetics team may recommend a different treatment to address them. Laser Genesis also works well with other treatments, such as chemical peels, to provide smoother, vibrant skin.

I always feel listened to by Dr. Cobbinah. As a mom, this is important because we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. She reminds me to take care of myself whenever I visit. I typically leave feeling less stressed than before.
